DESCRIPTION

Coir pith is generated in large quantities in the major coir production Centres. Extraction of 1 Kg of coir fibre on an average will leave 2 kgs of coir pith. Large hillocks of Coir pith are a common sight in the villages where coir fibre is extracted. Coir pith was considered as an agro waste in the yesterday years. In Kerala, The Coir pith was used largely for reclaiming. The wet lands and also as a mule. Coir pith will not degrade by itself and will remain over the soil years together, thus polluting the environment.

Coir Board, after long years of R & D has invented a technology for bioconversion of coir pith into Coir pith Organic manure which provided a solution to the problem of accumulating coir pith in the Coir fibre extraction units. 'Pith Plus- an edible mushroom spawn speeds up composting process of coir pith and leads to 42% reduction in volume of coir pith. This mushroom belongs to the fungal group Basidiomycetes capable to detoxifying phenolics and producing bio polymerising enzymes. Cellulosic Compounds prevent is coir pith supports the initial growth of this fungus and act as co-substants for lignin degradation. The degradation of coir pith by Pith plus as marked by the increased evolution of carbon dioxide. The fungal mycelia spread to the surface of the coir pith particles and degrade the lignocellulosic content.

AGROCOPS C-POM is approved as an organic manure for various crops in Kerala to be applied at the rate of cow dung / Compost recommended for various crops.

C-POM is yet to get popularised among the farmers as an excellent substitute for compost or cow dung. The processing technology of Coir pith has to be familiarised to the farmers and encouraged to produce C-pom the metres wherever raw coir pith is available.

Agrocops C-Pom will increase Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium in the soil and is more suitable as a soil addictive and growing medium for Agri / horticulture. Agrocops C-POM contains no weed seeds. It is cost effective and best substitute for Cow dung, Town compost or Vermicompost.
